Root canal treatment is often required due to caries that have not been treated for a long time. You can protect your teeth for a long time with a quality treatment service, oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist. There are endodontists in Turkey who perform this treatment very well.
Deep and long-term untreated caries in the tooth can reach the nerve tissue called pulp. Therefore, symptoms such as pain and dental hypersensitivity may occur. In order to eliminate such complaints of the patient, it is necessary to clean the decay and remove the pulp from the root canal system.
Spontaneous pain, pain during chewing or excessive sensitivity may persist even when canal treatment is performed. Because there may be extra canals that could not be detected in the first treatment, microorganisms may not be completely cleaned from the root canal system, or the canal filling may not be done well. For such reasons, the dentist decides to renew the root canal treatment.
Cracked teeth, teeth exposed to continuous trauma and teeth with incorrect orthodontic force can lose their vitality over time without showing any symptoms. The pulp tissue inside the tooth dies and the pulp necrosises, the root canal system becomes infected. Therefore, the tooth colour changes. Even if the patient has no complaints, canal treatment should be performed on the tooth in this situation. If it is not treated, lesions occur in the roots of the tooth, these lesions may cause tooth loss.
Dental fillings or restorations should certainly be performed on the teeth that root canal treatment has been performed. Root canal treated teeth whose fillings or crowns fall off are considered infected if they remain this way for more than 4 weeks. In this case, it will be appropriate to renew the root canal treatment for the new restoration.
Patients with facial swelling due to abscess formation in the teeth should visit the dentist. The cause of the abscess may be the formation of a cyst in the root of the tooth with root canal treatment. In this case, the root canal treatment should be renewed and the cyst should be cleaned with surgical procedures such as apical resection. If the cyst is too large to be cleaned, the tooth may be lost.
Especially in very crowded teeth, the tooth may become very sensitive during veneer treatment or the pulp may be exposed with tooth cutting. In this case, the dentist directs the patient to canal treatment. Root canal treatment should be performed as a preventive procedure.
It is the treatment of the tooth by the dentist with medical instruments as a result of the pulp being invaded and infected by microorganisms for various reasons.
Pain and swelling may occur during the treatment phase. This situation is normal. If the pain continues for more than 1 week, the dentist should be visited.
There is a low risk of complications during treatment.

If the root canal treatment is completed in a single visit, not chewing with the treated area for about 1 week after treatment will increase the healing process.
In multiple session root canal treatments, the teeth with temporary fillings should not be used until the treatment is completed. Since high force is applied during chewing, it may cause fracture or damage to the temporary filling and extends the treatment time. There is no harm in using the tooth immediately after the multiple session root canal treatment is completed.
Routine oral care should be continued. There is no harm in brushing the treated teeth and using mouthwash. Dental floss should be used.
You may need to use antibiotics and painkillers with the advice of the dentist, especially if you have root canal treatment due to abscess. It is also recommended to minimise hot foods consumption.
You should not use medicines that are not prescribed by the dentist.
Regular visits to the dentist is necessary.
Firstly, a detailed oral examination and X-ray examination is performed. Decayed teeth are identified. The dentist decides on the treatment according to the size and depth of the decay. If the decay is very large, he/she recommends canal treatment or dental veneers.
Local anaesthesia is performed to the area where the root canal treatment is indicated. This ensures that you do not feel pain during treatment
The decay in the tooth is cleaned and the old restorations are removed, if any.
Pulp tissue or previously made canal filling is cleaned. The root canal system is properly expanded and disinfected. If the root canal treatment is to be completed in a single visit, root canal filling is performed with the appropriate material. In case the tooth is infected, the treatment is not completed in a single operation, medication is applied locally to the tooth canal in intermediate visits. When the dentist is convinced that the infection is completely healed, then the canal filling is performed.
After the root canal system is filled, a restoration is needed. Depending on the amount of remaining healthy tissue of the tooth, the restoration can be made as dental filling, inlay-onlay or veneer. If there is enough healthy tissue to be completed with a dental filling, the treatment finishes in the same session as the root canal filling. However, if it is decided to make inlay-onlay or veneers in teeth with high material loss, dental impressions are taken after root canal filling and sent to the laboratory for tooth production. The tooth produced by the laboratory is bonded to the tooth on the next visit by the dentist in the clinic and the treatment is completed. If a second visit is necessary, a temporary filling is performed during this time.
